Here is a review of our February 2015!
Looking back at my calendar, here are some fun things that happened: Caleb had 100 day at school where he got to take in 100 small items to count- he chose pom-pom balls. Kailyn turned THREE, Dads and Donuts at school for Caleb's class, I finished up the Baby Steps board at Church, Valentine's festivities, nursing home visit with small group, the kids spent a weekend with Gran Gran, school delays started because of icy roads, Kailyn had her first trip to the ER from hitting her head on the coffee table, car battery died, more snow days, preparations to host a baby shower, and gathering/tagging items for consignment. Wow- what a busy month!!
February 4, 2015: Kailyn's 3rd Birthday.
What a bittersweet day. It is fun to see them grow and experience new things, but at the same time I want them to stay little forever. (I plan to write another post all about Kailyn at 3 very soon!!) I have always made sure we make Birthdays a big deal around here. I mean, you only get one special day that is yours once a year. I want the kids to always remember their Bdays being special. Caleb had been a little sick the day before, so we played it safe and let him stay out of school one more day so he could do special stuff with us. We started out our day making sprinkle pancakes per Kailyn's request. I even attempted dinosaur shaped ones and finally got it on my 10th try!
Unfortunately, a relator called right when we were about to head out, so we had to clean up the house really quick, which set us behind schedule a tiny bit. It all worked out in the end! We started off our day with Kailyn's very first manicure. She loved it! Then we met Daddy for lunch at Lime, a Mexican restaurant at Bridgestreet. Then we topped it off by watching the movie, Paddington, at the theater.
That afternoon, we met Daddy at home to open presents before going to dinner. Caleb bought her an Anna (from Frozen) dress-up dress. Mommy and Daddy spoiled her with an Aurora nightgown with matching slippers, an Elsa shirt, hairclips, her 1st Vera Bradley purse, and a singing bird. Kailyn's favorite is Red Lobster, so that is what she picked for her Birthday dinner! She fell asleep on the way home- sweet girl had a big day :)
She woke up as we got home excited to eat cupcakes and blow out her candles. Then she insisted on wearing her new nightgown for bed. So cute!
February 7, 2015: Lilly Kay's Birthday party.
Lilly Kay is one of the kids' sweet friends in our small group. We love her SO much! We were all so excited to go and celebrate her 4th Birthday at her super awesome Frozen party.
February 7, 2015: Kailyn's 3rd Birthday party @ The Little Gym
Kailyn picked Tinkerbell for her party theme and it was so fun to plan! We kept it easy and simple by going to the Little Gym for the party. The kids got to play in the gym area for about an hour then we went into the party room for cake and snacks. All of the girls got fairy wings and I made the boys Peter Pan hats. I meant to get a group shot of all the kids dressed up and totally failed- boo! It was a great party, Kailyn had a lot of sweet friends come out to help her celebrate being 3.
February 12, 2015: Small group dinner and nursing home visit
Our small group’s tradition is to gather with another small group in our Sunday School class and hand out hand-made Valentine’s cards at a local nursing home. This year, Ashley and her sweet little girls were in town visiting from Texas. They moved a little over a year ago and we have missed them dearly. It felt like they’d never left and were still in our group. We all met to eat dinner together at a local Mexican restaurant. The girl’s in our group surprised the guys with a few special Vday songs sang by a local group, one of the guys is in our SS class at Church! Such a fun night.
February 13, 2015: Valentine’s Playdate at Henry’s
Friday morning, Kailyn was invited to a playdate at her friend, Henry’s house. They are in the same class at Church together and have been since they were itty bitty babies!! We are also in class with his parents. Kailyn was excited to go to his house to play. His Mom had a painting craft, play dough, and lots of yummy snacks. It’s always fun to get together with friends! I also got to visit with my friend, Ashley and her girls again before they headed back to Texas.
February 18, 2015: Snow Day
So began the string of many missed days of school because of snow/ice. Both kids missed on the 17th, school was cancelled because of icy roads. The next morning, school was delayed for Caleb but it was snowing so we decided to just skip and enjoy the snow!
February 19, 2015: Kailyn’s ER Visit
The next day, we were delayed again because of icy roads, but were actually planning on going! The kids were starting to get a little stir crazy at home. I was in the kitchen fixing breakfast and Kailyn was on the couch straightening her blanket on the couch. She likes her covers, “flat” with no wrinkles! Well, silly girl just walked backwards one too many steps and fell off the couch and it the back of her head on the table. It happened in slow motion- I saw it happening and couldn’t get there in time. I thought it was going to just be a nasty bump until a minute or so after holding her, I moved my hand and it was full of blood. Talk about a Mommy panic moment. Luckily, Caleb grabbed us a towel and I was able to get the bleeding to stop fairly quickly. I wasn’t sure how bad the cut was since it was in her hair and couldn’t see because there was SO much blood matted in her hair. So we called Daddy to come home and off to the ER we went… Kailyn was a trooper! They put some numbing cream on there and 30 minutes later, she didn’t even flinch when they put the staples in.
Gran Gran even came over after we returned home from the hospital. She was so sweet to bring the kids some new coloring books as a surprise. That afternoon, Kailyn had her 3 year check up at the pediatricians office. She passed with flying colors! She is growing perfectly!!! After the appointment, we went to Toys R Us to treat Kailyn for having such a rough day and Caleb got something too for being such a good big brother all day. We finished our outing with cookies at Panera Bread with Gran Gran. Thank goodness Kailyn had no issues with her head- we gave her pain meds for a day or so just to be safe, but she never complained. She did baby it a little bit when laying down, she just didn’t want to lay on the back of her head. It was a terrifying day, but we were so proud of our brave little girl!!
February 20, 2015: More snow
No school again, another light dusting of snow during the day and some ice that night. You know, Alabama shuts down for snow!!!
February 25, 2015: Even more snow!
The previous snow/ice/sleet lasted through the weekend. They delayed schools Monday to be safe, I think. We had a regular day Tuesday. Then Wednesday school was cancelled. We sat at home and the sun shined all day...until that afternoon. Then it snowed and snowed, and snowed! By the next morning we had 7 inches! At this point we were a little over being locked up at home due to snow, but this snow was the fun play in it snow. I even had bought a snowman kit on clearance after Christmas and it had snow paint in it, which the kids loved!
February 26, 2015: Snow day, again...
The next morning, the snow was still there! The kids woke up ready to play. It didn't start to melt until after lunch. Then it was a slush that iced back over that night. Schools were cancelled again Friday. The snow was fun while it lasted, but I was SO ready for it to go away and stay away.
February 28, 2015: Kids Market Drop Off
Friday night Kacie, Mom, Pam (Jeremy's Mom), Jessica (sis in law), and Jessica's friend, Jessica all came over to stay the night. Jeremy and the kids had headed to Guntersville that afternoon for the weekend. That night we ate dinner at Carraba's then shopped a local consignment sale. I have the bestest friend in the world, Kacie stayed up late with me to help finish up Baby Shower decorations and food for the next day! We were just a little sleepy!! We woke up at 4:30am to head over to Kids Market to sit in line to drop off clothes, etc. at a consignment sale. The first 300 people get an early pass to shop- yes it's totally worth it! It was SO cold, but we made it.
February 28, 2015: Baby Tristan's baby shower
That same day was Jessica's baby shower for Tristan. Thank goodness for my Mom's help after Kids Mkt drop off! Of course, in all of the tiredness and chaos, a relator called to show the house that afternoon. In addition to getting showered/dressed, I had to clean the house and load up all of the shower stuff to get to Guntersville in time to set up for the shower. Whew...that was a rough patch, but luckily I made it through and the shower turned out great!!
