Kailyn- 4 Months
Another month has passed and Kailyn is already 4 months old! It is crazy that she has been with us for 1/3 of a year- time is flying by so quickly. The past month, Kailyn has been working on coming out of the “infant” stage and getting a little personality. She looooves to talk to us and to be talked to…it is so fun!! I am going to try to get it on video really soon. She is still very smiley and likes to show off her little dimples, which I love. One of Mommy’s favorite parts of the day is going to her room to get her in the morning and the second she sees me, she squeals and gives the biggest smile. Kailyn also loves to wiggle and kick her legs. She is starting to put her weight on her legs to stand (with lots of help, of course). Kailyn definitely prefers to sit upright and to not be layed down, especially if she is starting to get tired- still fights sleep a little.
Although she is getting so much better about fighting her naps, but still can put up a fight if we let her get too tired. She is still napping in the swing downstairs and Mommy dreds the day that she has to start napping in her bed. We are trying to keep her downstairs and around noise so that she can still sleep some when we are out and about during the day. Kailyn is also starting to grip things like her blanket, small elephant, or pacie. She has learned that she likes the pacie (boo, Mommy was hoping that she wouldn’t) and will put her hand up to it when she is tired and hold it in her mouth. But when she isn’t too sleepy, she tends to play with it and pull it out…silly girl! She still loves bath time and still screams when she gets out because she knows that she gets a bottle, so not doing good on patience yet.
Kailyn is taking about 4-6oz per bottle, she is not very predictable on how much she is going to eat, so we usually fix 6oz and if she eats it great, if not- no big deal. We also started her on rice cereal a few days ago on May 31st. She smiled and was happy during it, but wasn’t too interested in eating and kept spitting most of it out. So we will keep trying here and there at dinner time, but are not rushing into it.
Kailyn is still getting up during the night to eat a bottle…grr! Maybe month 4 will be our lucky month! The past week, she started getting up 2 times per night but seems to be getting back into her regular schedule of just once again, or at least Mommy hopes so. Maybe she was going through a growth spurt? Now, this is about the age where Caleb got to start crying it out some, but Mommy and Daddy are afraid that Kailyn’s crying would wake Caleb up during the night, so we are trying to hold off on doing that and see if she can start sleeping longer soon. Most nights she eats about half of her bottle and goes back into deep sleep very quickly, so it makes us wonder if she really even needs that bottle!
Here is her schedule lately:
3:30am- 5oz bottle and go right back to sleep
6am- wake up, play, eat bottle
8am-10am- nap
10am- wake up, play, eat lunch bottle
12:30pm-2pm- nap
2pm- wake up, play, eat afternoon bottle
4:30pm-5pm or 5:30pm- small nap
5:30pm- snack bottle, just a few ounces to hold her until bedtime, and starting to do cereal at this point some nights
7pm- bath time
7:30pm- night time bottle
8pm- asleep
Of course, her schedule still varies a lot from one day to the next. She is getting a lot more consistent with being up for 2 hours then needing a nap at that point. She usually sleeps about 2 hours each nap, of course sometimes less or more. And bath time is pretty consistent at 7pm, rather she had a good 3rd nap or not, 7pm is about the latest she can handle, which works out because that is Caleb’s bath time too! Mommy and Daddy both take one each night and switch it up.
Kailyn had a lot of firsts during her 3rd month: First trip to the Zoo, First time to the River, First road trip (to the River), First time to eat cereal, First time to swim, First boat ride, and First time to go to the nursery at Church.
